A suite of 8 brochures designed for Heywood, Middleton & Rochdale Primary Care Trust.

This suite of literature was designed to a strict brand identity which helped provide a very uniform and consistent appearance. Each booklets tackles a different issue of mental health including;  depression. panic and bereavement. A simple colour coding system and strong typographic hierarchy helps differentiate each brochure for easy identification, yet each sits within this ‘family’ of literature.

By following a prescriptive brand identity it makes introducing new brochures easy which ultimately helps reduce costs. Because the ‘visual rules’ are established you also gain a strong uniform look.

SB Skills Solutions is a UK wide training company, providing training and qualifications specifically for the construction industry, warehousing and local Government. As part of a management buyout, the company wanted to portray a new image but still have some link with the old branding. A completely new logo was developed but utilised similar colour palette to the old design to signal some element of continuation and link with the old company.

National Centre for Diversity (NCD) – Corporate Identity Design

Development of a company branding and suite of communication literature

The National Centre for Diversity (NCD) is a rapidly expanding and successful business delivering training and consultancy to businesses on all matters of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the work Place. The result of this expansion was the need for the following design support services:

  • Realignment of the brand positioning
  • Stronger communication of their core brand values
  • Establishing of  brand identity guidelines
  • Creation of a communication literature style
  • Development of interactive e-learning courses

The project covered the development of the main company logo plus a series of sub brands (relating to the awards that they have such as; Investors in Diversity. Leaders In diversity). Creation of a uniform corporate identity that covered the use of fonts, colours, marketing messages, images, Literature templates and a series on online E-learning packages.

Buckinghamshire College required their prospectus designing for the 2015 term to an extremely high standard, but also to a very tight schedule. Over 230 pages were required to be designed to a high level of layout style and typographic detail but all within a 5 day time period (for the 1st draft) – a very tall order if standard production techniques were employed.

However, this is where Northstar called upon its experience in the field of large multi-page document design and utilised its ‘Streamlined Production Processes’ and techniques to simplify the design process, control the page design and importantly hit the deadline.

By using the power of ‘Adobe Indesign’ plus raw client data provided in in Excel we were able to integrate the two to develop a series of templates and import the data. This allowed us to create the finished pages in a third of the time compared to more standard processes.

The added bonus of this approach is that typographic errors and design inconsistencies are greatly reduced which makes the final stage of proofing and any amendments much quicker and more accurate. It all results in a less fraught time for client and designer which can be a problem for this type of project.

Professional Footballers’ Association – Literature

Players Guidebook Design & Print services for The PFA

Recent high profile incidents has highlighted the mental health issues that can affect footballers and management in the game today. To help counter these the Professional Footballers’ Assoociation (The PFA) asked Northstar Design to create a guidebook that would address many of the mental health issues encountered by players today in a practical yet engaging educational booklet.

Northstar teamed up with renowned illustrator Paul Trevillion (of ‘Roy of the Rovers’ fame) to create a 36 page A4 guidebook for the PFA and its players. The guidebook features Paul’s trademark style in a series of illustrations showing the pitfalls, issues and solutions facing players in the modern game. The illustrations are combined in an attractive and easy to use information booklet which aims to engage the reader. With quotes from many players past and present such as Paul Gascoigne, Neil Lenon and Stan Collymore, the handbook provides a practical and powerful resource.
