Catalogue Design Services – Surridge Sports
• Catalogue Design
Northstar Design is proud to say it has been designing and printing catalogues for Surridge Sports for over 10 years, each time creating a design that is more eye-catching and ‘striking’ than the last.
Last year we decided to step away from the traditional A4 catalogue format and proposed a folded A2 catalogue/wall poster which when opened out displayed the whole range of Rugby or Football kits.
A successful catalogue should above all be simple to navigate, find the product you want and quickly aid you to make a decision. These catalogues do this effortlessly. A combination of a clean grid layout, quality product photography that show the clothing off to maximum effectiveness and crisp typography make locating products easy.
To top it all off, two striking and contrasting covers were developed to give personality to the Surridge brand. The football cover uses a specially commissioned illustration which harks back to the classic shoot comics – a homage to Surridge’s history as a sports equipment brand. The rugby catalogue’s alternative use of photography and ‘Best Game Ever’ statement aims to position the brand with positive attitude.

Recent high profile incidents has highlighted the mental health issues that can affect footballers and management in the game today. To help counter these the Professional Footballers’ Assoociation (The PFA) asked Northstar Design to create a guidebook that would address many of the mental health issues encountered by players today in a practical yet engaging educational booklet.
Northstar teamed up with renowned illustrator Paul Trevillion (of ‘Roy of the Rovers’ fame) to create a 36 page A4 guidebook for the PFA and its players. The guidebook features Paul’s trademark style in a series of illustrations showing the pitfalls, issues and solutions facing players in the modern game. The illustrations are combined in an attractive and easy to use information booklet which aims to engage the reader. With quotes from many players past and present such as Paul Gascoigne, Neil Lenon and Stan Collymore, the handbook provides a practical and powerful resource.
The guidebook has also featured in the national press with the article appearing in the Daily Mail.
Annual report design and production services – Not-for-profit organisation
• 74 page A4 Annual Report • 3 colour print • perfect bound.
The GSCC are public body responsible for the standards of social care within the UK. As part of their remit the Council has to design an Annual Report and Accounts to comply with their regulatory commitments.
They asked Northstar Design to create an annual report that accurately reflected their high standards of professionalism and dedication – all within a tight timescale and design budget. To this end Northstar created n annual report that utilised their branding as an abstract design element to give movement and pace to the pages of the report.
Soft greys and tints of the organsiation’s corporate colours help to soften the presentation of the information and make the annual report light and easy to read.
Annual report design and print – Professional Footballers Association,
• 48 page A4 Annual Report. • Full colour, matt laminated cover with spot UV varnish.
The design of an Annual Report for a high profile organisation is always an enjoyable task. It is made even more appealing when it is for a major player in the nations favourite game – The PFA.
Annual reports are a showcase for an organisation. They need to mirror the successes and aspirations. However, it also needs to deliver the information in a structured and logical format.
The PFA annual report design strikes a balance between style and substance. Exciting visual spreads appeal to the young football professional, but there is also clarity and a sense of purpose that reinforces the professionalism of the PFA.
Rossendale Borough Council
Complete re-branding of the main Council identity. Implementation across all communication material, signage and livery.
Rossendale Council required a complete re-branding to reflect the big change in management and direction that was being undertaken. A positive and modern corporate identity was required to enforce the change.
The solution is a move away from the usual coat of arms that adorn many Councils’ brands. Instead, a modern and lively logo ‘Rossendale Alive’ was developed to illustrate this positive attitude.
To maintain consistency across its implementation, a brand manual was designed outlining colours, fonts, layout styles, rules and restrictions. Three years on the identity is flourishing and the strong foundations means the identity remains as consistent now as it did when it was launched.
