Selecting a gift card format.
The types of variable data we can format and integrate onto a printed Gift card / Voucher card depends on the customer’s infrastructure and technology used for recording and accepting the data.
Online verification codes:
Typically, gift cards printing with unique codes are a commonly used format for claiming online. They could be used for purchases, discounts, prizes, or gaining access to an online service on a website page. Unique codes can take many forms but generally the  longer and more varied the code means they are more secure and less susceptible to improper use
Why use QR Codes on your gift card printing?
QR codes are a very popular format used on Gift cards / Voucher cards. A popular use is where generic codes are scanned with a smart phone which takes users to a specific website / landing page  where the next phase of the interaction begins.
Alternatively, a more sophisticated use of QR codes is where each code is unique, and intended to be ‘single use only’. The QR code is scanned by a phone or EPOS system and allows access to goods, services or an event. We can create individual QR codes on every piece of print. All we need is a css file with a list of the codes and we’ll two the rest. QR Codes an extremely versatile marketing and powerful management tool.
Why use Bar Codes on your gift card printing?
Similar to QR codes, bar codes normally involve some element of scanning to activate a process. However, Bar codes are more suited to higher volume uses – such as at a checkout. The amount of data held on a bar code is less than a QR code so is more suited to product codes or registering with an EPOS system. We’ve incorporated bar codes is retail customers  as well as  betting shops.

USING QR CODES
Here we have an example of a voucher card for a themed restaurant diner incorporating single-use QR codes for accessing an offer.
Each card is printed with a unique QR code to be read by the diners EPOS system. When scanned, the system acknowledges the card is genuine and net been used previously and issues the relevant freebie.  The QR codes were generated from a client-supplied csv file and imported into our software.  This can generate thousands of  individual QR codes and all in print ready formats for us to process.  QR codes were selected over a bar code as the level of data held in a QR code is greater than that held in a bar code.
PRINTED UNIQUE CODES
Here’s an example of gift card printing using unique codes. These codes are for single use only for claiming a discount on an onlinepurchase. Users visit the company’s website and use the codes as part of an online purchase. The power of  unique discount codes like these is that they are great for engaging with customers, generating web traffic, creating sales and also gaining important customer information for re-marketing.
We normally produce cards from client supplied csv file which are imported into our software. This  integrates the codes onto design and also creates the print ready files.
Magnetic strips for variable data
Magnetic strips applied to gift cards opens up a whole new range of possibilities. They can be dynamic  where data can be pre loaded onto the card and then be used for accessing products, services or purchases. Alternatively, data can be added at a later data and held on the card for future use.
